“G is for Grid Design” – Lay-out Your Pages like the Pros

atozpostcards_gfrontAre you ready to go beyond Columns? Try Grid Design!

1. Why use grid design?

  • Allows students to adapt ideas from newspapers and magazines more easily than column design
  • Lends more flexibility and visual variety than columns
  • Makes white space a major design element
  • Creates visual consistency throughout the book when the same grid is used

2.  Use this guide to help you set up your grids:

  • 9″ x 12″ books = 32-40 columns
  • 8.5″ x 11″ books = 28-36 columns
  • 7.75″ x 10.5″ books = 24-32 columns
